What we do

African Corner Notts exists primarily to benefit the wider community of the minority group in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire with a view of sharing knowledge of African culture through carnivals, festivals and workshops which can shine a light on important contemporary issues by pursuing a social purposes with all assets to be used for public good.

 

The company's activities is to promote understanding of art and culture amongst the minority groups in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, advance the care of its people, organise events and activities for the cause and facilitate the development and management of the group's activities to benefit their immediate community. It showcases African Art and Cultural activities through drumming, performing arts - masquerade costumes traditional dance, live music and songs. Its core purpose is to promote culture and values in the UK and is not for profit organisation that aims to use social events centred on culture to engage our communities and foster a better social cohesion.

 

African Corner Notts liaise with other organisations and community groups with similar cause currently, working with Nottingham Carnival, Mojatu foundation, Hyson green cultural festival and African Community Nottingham by showcasing African culture on stage through dance, fashion show(dashiki/ankara to display), performances from local and home group artists, dance groups, troupes and best of Disk Jockeys  playing the best in African music.

We are thrilled to announce that African Corner Notts will be hosting the Afrobeats Corner @ the African Festival Nottingham which will be held on Saturday 20 July 2024 from 1pm until 7pm, at the Forest Recreation Ground, Gregory Boulevard, NG7 6HB. The first African Festival will feature African Cultural Bands, Dancing Groups, Afro-beats Corner, Afro-traditional food cuisines, Arts and Culture, storytelling, Poetry and Children activities. The African Festival aims to bring all the African people in the East Midlands together to celebrate the African cultural heritage and also share their rich traditions to other nationalities from across the globe. We will like to take this opportunity to appreciate everyone that came out to support the Afrobeats In The Park 2022. We are glad everyone had an amazing time, no casualties - God's grace, kids had a wonderful time. My gratitude goes to the team and the organising committee including the DJs, artist, performing acts, food and drinks suppliers, camera crew and everyone that supported in their own little ways to ensure it was a success and everyone that worked tirelessly behind the scene. We also like to thank other community groups that rallied around us from when we initiated the idea to implementing it.
